Coming Up: Tuberose Series

Tuberose scent reviews are coming soon!

Look for reviews of the following, as well as some surprise reviews, sprinkled throughout the month of January:

DSH Perfumes Tubereuse
Estee Lauder Private Collection Tuberose Gardenia
Frederic Malle Carnal Flower
Serge Lutens Tubereuse Criminelle
Robert Piguet Fracas

There will be at least one Blast from the Past review, if not two.   (I also beg your indulgence for the lack of diacritical marks on the French words.  Sorry - it's a pain with Blogger, and also I'd rather spend time just smelling than making sure every e is accented correctly.)

Tuberose is definitely a love-if-or-hate-it note.  What about you?  Do you wish you could bathe in it, or does it leave you begging for air?  I suppose it's possible that there's someone who doesn't have strong feelings about it one way or the other, but those people seem rare.  If you disagree, let me know.  If you think I'm crazy for spending all my time with tuberose, let me know that too.  (If you're excited about the upcoming, hooray!  So am I.)

Image is Tuberose Field by Nicola Busana at flickr.  I'd love to go for a walk there...

I appreciate tuberose very gingerly and selectively, but would welcome more steers! I like Carnal Flower (green and watery, if slightly "flat/dead" smelling), and EL PC Tuberose Gardenia (bright and cheerful, with a nice balance between the two notes), also Roja Dove Scandal (applied sparingly), but do not care for straight tuberose scents like DSH Tuberose or the PG one or anything else with more or less just Tuberose/Tubereuse as its name! And Fracas is too much of a bombshell, frankly. Beyond Love has a weird coconutty thing going on and like almost all By Kilians, gives me a raging headache. Giorgio I am terrified of trying, but may brave it one day...!

Tuberose! Tuberose! I've been babbling incessantly about my previous dislike for it and my growing tolerance for it followed by my very recent falling-over fondness for it. Tuberose! I'll be reading the series, yep yep yep. Yep.

You and Mals86 may become known as "The Tuberose Two"...

Love/Hate?Love?Hate/Love/Hate? Oh, yes-- the "It" flower of the Aughts-- so, so touchy for me. Love it in DelRae Roth "Amoureuse" and Apothia "If"-- even love it in the death-match struggle with gardenia in Michael Kors "For Women."

But straight up, like in "Tuberose Criminelle" and "Carnal Flower"? So, so very scary. Funny thing-- I'm heading off to Barney's this week with a tuberose fanatic friend of mine-- we'll be sampling a full ladder of tuberose stuff-- It'll be fun to experience it through her nose!!

Hmmm. I tried Carnal Flower a few months ago, in the middle of the Tuberose Conversion that Tubereuse Couture was working on me. Hated it a lot. I should try it again now that the conversion is complete.

Now, see, this is my point about tuberose being a love/hate thing... I didn't account for it being both, but it's rare to find someone who says, "Eh. I can take it or leave it," about tuberose.

I sincerely hope I don't overdose on it, since it's long been a favorite of mine.

Flitter, we'll see if we can find something else that might take your fancy.

CF - I've been reading your tuberose struggles with great interest. I have not yet tested either TCrim or TCout, but they are ON THE LIST! I have a TCrim vial in my hot little hand... well, I had to put it down to type...

LCN - it's always interesting to hear from someone wary about the note, to understand what makes it offputting. Me, I'm a patchouli coward. Also balsams are nearly impossible. But aldehydes? No prob.

Yeah-- I think you're right-- "Take it or leave it" isn't really an option for the tuberose...
